Nanaimo Fire Rescue

CLOSED · October 2, 2026

Last verified: October 3, 2026

Competition 26-110, career Fire Fighter, closes Friday 2 October 2026 at 4:30 PM. Everyone starts as a Flex Fire Fighter: full-time hours with no guaranteed schedule and short-notice changes, which is why you must live within one hour's drive of the furthest Nanaimo fire hall. Starting rate $32.44/hour (first 6 months, 2026). Every minimum requirement except the CPAT must be complete by the closing date.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue Services

CLOSED · September 17, 2026

Last verified: October 2, 2026

Applications for the 2026 Probationary Firefighter list closed on 17 September 2026 at 11:59 PM through the Chatham-Kent online portal. The 25 October 2026 date in some listings is NOT an application deadline: it is the last day for candidates the department has already invited to finish their FSO testing and hand in their package. Do not book FSO testing unless CK Fire & Rescue has contacted you. The list runs for two years, so prepare now for the next posting.

Central York Fire Services (Newmarket & Aurora)

CLOSED · October 2, 2026

Last verified: October 3, 2026

Probationary Firefighter, competition 26-206, posted 14 September 2026 and closing 2 October 2026 according to two independent firefighter job boards. We could not open the Town of Newmarket posting itself, so confirm the deadline on newmarket.ca before relying on it. Applications go through the Town of Newmarket online system, and CYFS asks you to download its recruitment package from cyfs.ca first. Based on the last cycle (2024), all three OFAI certificates must already be valid when you apply.

Peterborough Fire Services

CLOSED · September 30, 2026

Last verified: October 1, 2026

Applicants must have OFAI certification for Stages One through Three. Completion of the OFAI swim test is also required. (Probationary firefighter; probationary.) Source: OFAI current recruitments

Hamilton Fire Department

CLOSED · September 9, 2026

Last verified: September 11, 2026

The 2026 Full-time Probationary Firefighter competition closed on 9 September 2026. Use the gap to prepare for the next one: advertised requirements were Grade 12 or approved equivalent, Standard First Aid with CPR Level C, and a valid Ontario Class DZ licence with ZERO demerit points at the time of application, kept clean throughout the process. Wage range about $35.81 to $60.04 per hour. You applied online with a resume and a mandatory questionnaire, and an incomplete questionnaire or a missing resume was an automatic disqualification. Candidates who passed practical agility testing then underwent a psychological assessment whose results are not shared with candidates. Hamilton also runs a separate volunteer stream, currently advertising for 2027, with a 260-hour training programme.

Campbell River Fire Department

CLOSED · October 9, 2026

Last verified: October 10, 2026

Paid-On-Call Firefighters (posting 26-073), applications close 11:59 PM on Friday 9 October 2026. This is NOT a career job: paid-on-call firefighters keep their regular jobs and are paid only for training and calls, starting at $18.75 an hour as recruits. No firefighting certificates are needed to apply - the City trains you - but you must be 19 or older and live inside the Campbell River Fire Protection Area. It is a common first step towards a career posting.

Kamloops Fire Rescue

CLOSED · August 31, 2026

Last verified: September 20, 2026

The 2026 Firefighter Recruitment Drive closed on 31 August 2026 at 11:59 p.m. and builds an eligibility list for future vacancies. Written testing ran online between 21 and 23 September 2026. Kamloops does not publish a fixed annual window, so the next drive has no announced date.

St. John's Regional Fire Department

CLOSED · September 15, 2026

Last verified: September 26, 2026

The 2026-2027 Temporary Firefighter competition was posted in September 2026 and closed on 15 September 2026. For this cycle a Class 3 driver's licence is no longer a minimum requirement. SJRFD usually recruits about every two years, so prepare now for the next competition using the 2026-2027 Recruitment Guide.

Grand Forks Fire Rescue (Work Experience Program)

CLOSED · September 14, 2026

Last verified: September 15, 2026

This is WEP 05, a twelve-month work experience placement rather than a permanent job, and it is worth understanding before you apply. Trainees live in the fire station, become honorarium-paid members receiving the same stipends as volunteers, and commit for twelve months unless a career department hires them first. The programme takes about four people per intake and starts with orientation in early October 2026. Requirements: Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status, age 18 to 60, NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II already held, a doctor''s medical clearance or fitness certificate accepted as Fit Tech, CPAT or York Test, normal hearing without aids, and a criminal record check including the vulnerable sector screening. DATE CONFLICT: the aggregator listing shows applications closing 14 September 2026 while the programme description says interviews were completed 28 August 2026. Contact Fire Chief Piche at the city directly before relying on either date.

Barrie Fire and Emergency Service

CLOSED · October 14, 2026

Last verified: October 15, 2026

Requires successful completion of the OFAI Candidate Testing Services stages listed in the posting. Candidates must be able to work a 24-hour shift, with an average workweek of 42 hours under the Collective Agreement. Thorold Fire and Emergency Services

CLOSED · September 27, 2026

Last verified: September 28, 2026

Candidates must book all FSO tests in one appointment and bring the documents listed in the application checklist. Application packages are due in person or by mail by September 27, 2026, at 11:59 PM EST; failure to complete the ESR assessment by the applicable deadline results in disqualification. (Full-Time Firefighter; career full-time.) Source: Firefighter Services of Ontario recruitment

Windsor Fire & Rescue Services

CLOSED · September 28, 2026

Last verified: September 29, 2026

Online applications close Monday 28 September 2026 at 4:30 PM (posting 2026-0231). Important: the City's FAQ requires FSO screening to be completed on or before Sunday 20 September 2026, so this cycle is realistically only for candidates who have already tested with FSO. If you have not, prepare now for the next Windsor recruitment.

Kitimat Fire Department

CLOSED · October 16, 2026

Last verified: October 17, 2026

Firefighter/Paramedic, up to 2 permanent full-time positions, apply by email to hr@kitimat.ca by Friday 16 October 2026, 4:30 PM. Kitimat Fire and Ambulance is the only department in BC that runs both fire and ambulance, so a Primary Care Paramedic licence is the real key here - PCPs who can obtain NFPA 1001 I and II are explicitly invited. Wages have parity with the City of Vancouver, and career firefighters get their experience wage-matched up to three years. Selection happens in a single recruitment weekend: interview, fitness tests and aptitude tests in paramedicine and mechanical knowledge, with accommodation covered and $500 towards travel.
