Prep priority
All five named areas exist in our bank: verbal, numerical, spatial and mechanical reasoning, plus writing ability for the English literacy section. Spatial reasoning is the thinnest of the five in our bank and is the area most candidates neglect.

What we do not cover
We have not established which written exam Kamloops Fire Rescue uses, so we cannot tell you that our questions match it. Check the department's current job posting, then come back and pick the matching exam family.
Practice for the areas this test covers
This department does not name a test provider on its posting, so we cannot tag our bank to a specific exam. Instead, we match our bank to the content areas the department itself publishes.
Stages are stored per department. Anything not yet confirmed against an official source is marked as requirements to be verified.
The City establishes an eligibility list of qualified firefighters in anticipation of future vacancies, so an application is not tied to a named vacancy. Every required document is listed on the Recruitment Checklist and must be submitted with the online application before the closing date, including the Physical Fitness Test - Doctor's Consent Form and the consent forms. The posting lists a valid BC Class 4 driver's licence among its qualifications. Assets named in the posting: fire-services courses (auto extrication, surface and swift water rescue, high angle and rope rescue, confined space, hazardous materials, aircraft crash rescue, incident command, critical incident stress), volunteer experience in emergency services, demonstrated community involvement, a Pleasure Craft Operator Card and a demonstrated commitment to fitness.
Multiple-choice, taken online between 21 and 23 September 2026, with full instructions given to candidates on the day of their test. The assessment covers verbal, numerical, spatial and mechanical reasoning plus an English language (literacy) test. The City strongly recommends a laptop or desktop computer and a good internet connection. Scores from a written test sat in a previous Kamloops Fire Rescue recruitment are not accepted - every candidate sits the current test. The City does not publish the provider, the question count, the time limit or a pass mark.
A series of tasks typical of the firefighter role. The tasks are set out on the Physical Fitness Test - Doctor's Consent Form that candidates complete and submit with the application. The City does not publish a CPAT requirement and does not say whether an external CPAT certificate is accepted.
Per the department's recruitment FAQ, passing each stage of testing does not on its own earn an interview. Because of the number of applications, testing is used as a screening tool: the recruitment panel reviews each application and only the strongest overall scores are invited to interview.
Carried out for candidates who reach the final eligibility list. Results of previous vision and hearing tests do not need to be supplied (recruitment FAQ).
For new hires and positions of trust, including work with vulnerable persons, no formal offer of employment is made until the applicant completes and passes a criminal record check. The position is unionised with IAFF Local 913.

Not confirmed. Kamloops runs its own physical testing and the City publishes neither a CPAT requirement nor a statement that an external CPAT certificate is accepted. Ask the recruitment team before paying for CPAT elsewhere.
Most successful candidates prepare for one to three years before a conditional offer. Being test-ready and fitness-ready before a posting opens matters more than intense preparation after it opens.
No. Every question is original training content written to reflect common recruitment task types. No legitimate provider has access to live exam material.
