Official careers page

Recruitment watch

This is WEP 05, a twelve-month work experience placement rather than a permanent job, and it is worth understanding before you apply. Trainees live in the fire station, become honorarium-paid members receiving the same stipends as volunteers, and commit for twelve months unless a career department hires them first. The programme takes about four people per intake and starts with orientation in early October 2026. Requirements: Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status, age 18 to 60, NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II already held, a doctor''s medical clearance or fitness certificate accepted as Fit Tech, CPAT or York Test, normal hearing without aids, and a criminal record check including the vulnerable sector screening. DATE CONFLICT: the aggregator listing shows applications closing 14 September 2026 while the programme description says interviews were completed 28 August 2026. Contact Fire Chief Piche at the city directly before relying on either date.

Questions candidates ask

Does Grand Forks Fire Rescue (Work Experience Program) use CPAT?

CPAT is one option, not a requirement. The application accepts a doctor's medical clearance or a fitness certificate, and names Fit Tech, CPAT or the York Test as acceptable evidence.

How far in advance should I start preparing?

Most successful candidates prepare for one to three years before a conditional offer. Being test-ready and fitness-ready before a posting opens matters more than intense preparation after it opens.

Are the practice questions here real exam questions?

No. Every question is original training content written to reflect common recruitment task types. No legitimate provider has access to live exam material.
