Recruitment watch

Applications close 21 September 2026 at 4:30 PM and no late applications are accepted. THE REAL DEADLINE IS EARLIER: all FSO screening must be finished by Sunday 20 September 2026, and registration for each test session closes 14 days before that session. If you have not booked your FSO appointment yet, you are almost certainly out of time for this cycle. Minimum requirements at the time of application: 18 or older, legally entitled to work in Canada, Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or ministry equivalency, a valid Class D licence with a Z endorsement, and a current Standard First Aid with BLS certificate. NFPA 1001 I & II, post-secondary study in firefighting, and medical or construction experience are listed as assets, not requirements. Candidates who pass the preliminary testing are then asked for a detailed resume and pay an administrative fee to the city.

You book and pay FSO directly. Sessions fill first come, first served and registration for each session closes 14 days before it runs, so this is the real deadline, not the application date. Results are given to you in person at the end of the appointment and never later by phone or in writing.

Questions candidates ask

Does Windsor Fire & Rescue Services use CPAT?

Yes. CPAT is part of the Firefighter Services of Ontario screening for this recruitment, alongside the aptitude exam, tread water and a clinical assessment. You book it with FSO yourself, and every screening component must be finished by 20 September 2026.

How far in advance should I start preparing?

Most successful candidates prepare for one to three years before a conditional offer. Being test-ready and fitness-ready before a posting opens matters more than intense preparation after it opens.

Are the practice questions here real exam questions?

No. Every question is original training content written to reflect common recruitment task types. No legitimate provider has access to live exam material.
