We have not yet confirmed this on the Town of Newmarket careers site, so we do not show it as open. In the last posting (2024) CYFS required valid OFAI Stage One, Two and Three certificates AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION, NFPA 1001 I & II, and a swim test if selected for interview. OFAI is an organisation, not a test. Wholly owned by the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs, it runs the Candidate Testing Services programme used by Ontario fire services. OFAI does not make municipal hiring decisions.
Gear: Stage Two is performed in full firefighting PPE plus SCBA weighing approximately 23 kg (51 lb). The SCBA is carried but not breathed from; a VO2 mask is worn.
Stage One — Aptitude, hearing and vision
Aptitude testing alongside hearing and vision screening. These are hard gates: candidates are eliminated here, before any physical testing.
