Endurance, not maximum crush
Physical ability events demand holding a load for a sustained period while walking, climbing or dragging. That is grip endurance, and it responds to time-under-tension work rather than heavy crushing grippers.
A weekly structure
Three to four short sessions per week beat one long one: farmer carries for distance, dead hangs to near failure, suitcase carries for asymmetric load, and towel-wrapped holds for thickness.
Stop each set before your form breaks. Grip injuries take weeks to settle and will cost you far more training than the extra reps gain.
