Competency scoring

Panels usually score against defined competencies such as teamwork, integrity, communication, resilience and public service orientation. Each answer is rated against evidence you provide, not against how confident you sound.

Build a story bank

Prepare eight to ten real situations from work, sport, volunteering or study, each written in situation-task-action-result form. Most competencies can be covered by re-angling the same strong stories.

Practise saying them out loud. An answer that reads well and sounds rehearsed still scores poorly if you cannot handle a follow-up question about your specific contribution.

Turn reading into readiness

Knowing the process is step one. Find out where you actually stand with a readiness check.
