An aptitude test measures reading, maths, mechanical and judgement reasoning you already have. A fire knowledge exam tests whether you have studied a specific textbook, so the preparation is reading that book cover to cover and then testing your recall.
Our records describe the Stage 2 written exam as 100 multiple-choice questions in 1.5 hours, based on chapters 3 to 20 of IFSTA Essentials of Fire Fighting, 7th edition, with a pass mark of 70%. IFSTA's recommended answers are deemed correct and there is no appeal process. Confirm against the current recruitment guide before applying.

No. Our records show Saskatoon screens on certification instead — applicants must already hold NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II along with other IFSAC or ProBoard certificates, so the written hurdle there is the certification exam at fire college rather than a recruitment exam.
