The battery deliberately requires no firefighting knowledge — it tests general reasoning and character, so prep effort belongs on timed problem-solving speed rather than fire-service content

Surrey Fire Service Physical Abilities Test (9 stations)

Format
Nine timed stations, no rest between them; failing the time on any station ends the test: confined space, aerial climb, sled drag, 10.67 m ladder extension, tower climb, hose roll raise, hydrant kit carry, hose advance, Storz roll carry
Timing
Stage 3, followed immediately by the skills assessment
Medical standard
Physician forms supplied by the City must be completed by your doctor before testing. Vision: 20/100 uncorrected and 20/30 corrected, combined

No. Surrey runs its own nine-station physical abilities test, not CPAT.

How far in advance should I start preparing?

Being test-ready and fitness-ready before a posting opens matters more than intense preparation after it opens.
