CPAT SIMULATOR & OFAI STAGES

Set the CPAT stations up in a gym, park or driveway, then run the sequence with this timer. CPAT is scored on the total time only — the per-station numbers here are our training splits. OFAI is a multi-stage programme rather than a single timed circuit, so it is described, not simulated.

Candidate Physical Ability Test

Eight consecutive events performed as one continuous, timed sequence with a walking transition between stations. The pass standard is a total time of 10 minutes 20 seconds.

Gear: 50 lb (23 kg) weighted vest, plus an additional 25 lb (11 kg) for the stair climb only.

Total time standard: 10:20

Station 1 of 8

Stair Climb

3 minutes on a StepMill at 60 steps per minute wearing the vest plus an additional 25 lb (11 kg) on the shoulders, preceded by a 20-second warm-up period.

Coaching

Stay upright, do not grip the rails for support, and hold a steady cadence from the first step.

Failure conditions

  • Falling or dismounting the StepMill after the timed test begins is an immediate failure.
  • Grasping the rail or wall to bear weight earns a warning; a third infraction fails the test.
